February Highlights

San Domenico runners were out and about last month with a packed few weeks of cross country, road and fell running amongst others. For the complete weekly breakdown, head over to our facebook account!

Mid month...

Over the last two weekends, we’ve had a lot of people out at various races.

8/9th Feb saw new members Ellie and Kai ran the winter warmer half marathon in Bute Park, both running faster than their previous best. Kyle also ran the 10k race.

Nick flew to Barcelona for a successful half marathon in perfect conditions, whilst Niall, John L and Ryan ran a slightly windier Llanelli Half. Congrats to Ryan on a great first race in club colours with a time one second outside of the 90 minute mark!

JC ran the Caerphilly Trail race after his recent cross country practice.

Elsewhere Del ran the Hereford 10 miler where she finished 3rd V35 and 6th Female on the fast figure of eight route along quiet lanes.

Nick Lattey, Huw S & Mark F ran the Brecon to Cardiff Ultra. They got to share their experience at the finish line. Well done to Mark for finishing top 20.

Hannah, Dave B went one step further and did the Extreme which meant he ran up to Pen Y Fan before catching the main course afterwards.

There were also a handful of races on the 23rd Feb...

The Reverse 10 was a tad soggy whilst Wokingham Half was a drier affair!

Ben was solo repping down the M4 at Wokingham, running 1:38 whilst nearer to home we had 7 at the Reverse 10.

With a couple nursing injuries and others nursing hangovers, the first uphill helped warm up the runners with all enjoyment caught by Mair Hewitt’s camera

It was also Gwent League time..

We had 13 Muddy Blues at the end of the latest leg of the Gwent XC League at Margam Park on Saturday.

Under the watchful gaze of Ron, there were some great performances from the team, notably James (who finished in the top 20), the Tom W/Chris Ox ongoing battle and Susannah finish as second in her age group.

Sticky mud made the course challenging in places, but the general consensus was that there was a good bit of variability out on the course which had been amended to recent years.

Everyone finished in good spirits on a chilly day and the supportive atmosphere among club members and fellow competitors highlighted the true spirit of cross-country racing.

The men’s team now stand 2nd in Division 2, with promotion an exciting prospect.

Thanks to Simon C, James H & Phil R for the race review - and Dexter for some AI magic

And at Parkrun

With Cardiff parkrun cancelled early February because of a race in the park, some of the local events had higher than normal attendance.

At Llanishen Park, we had eleven running. Jack H ran away at the start and wasn’t seen again, with Owen & Tony not too far behind, followed by Andy G, George, Simon C, Meg P, Ian B, Hannah, Karen & Natalie.

In Tremorfa, Johnny L ran whilst Craig was marshalling. Ryan marshalled at Cosmeston Lakes and cheered on Ben.

Luke went to Grangemoor and Harry W went to Riverfront. A small group of Rachel, Andrew U, Ceri, Paulina & Joey ran at Newport with James S at Porthcawl.

Sue was at Salisbury, Dan L ran at Seven Fields in Swindon and Ian O took a trip to Southwark in London.

Jamie went to Kingsway, Gloucester and Rob L had another easy first finisher at Hazelwood.

Enjoying some rugby later in the day, Cat & Huw S happened to take trips to Rome and met up at Caffarella whilst James D enjoyed Albert Park in Melbourne near the Formula One track!

The wet weather towards the end of the month saw a few muddy and miserable parkruns on the 22nd February too!

11 ran at Cardiff including a 5k PB for James H.

Jack took first place at Barry Island as did Rob L in Osterley near London, with Cat as first lady in Tremorfa.

Ryan did Cosmeston Lakes, Nick ran Penallta, with Niall at Maesteg, Tom W at Merthyr and James S at Porthcawl.

It was an all Dan affair with Dan L & Dan F running Riverfront. Tony, Matt, Andrew H & Craig ran at Llanishen Park whilst Jamie had a muddy experience at Uckfield.

Gav ran at Swansea Bay and Karen did Weymouth.

In Australia, James D did a new one at Studley whilst Morwenna ran at Kawana.

And finally...

There were a few socials including John's fundraiser and plenty of track sessions, hill reps and the usual 2 mile time trial and long sunday run.
